The Humour Debate, Minus the Laughter
I watched The Arena yesterday. It’s a debating show, no need for caller-in votes, just four judges to determine the life and death of the debating teams. And yesterday’s title was: The Society is Not Encouraging Humour.
Well, i was cleaning the fridge, using hair dryer to defreeze the ice block formed around the freezer. It was about 2 inch thick. Imagine! *grins*
Ok, back to the debate. It’s so serious and not fun, disregarding the title. Really. Everyone’s tensed . They speak so fast, I can hardly understand the words they’re saying, not to say those MANY jargons they use just to make them look oh-so-sophisticated. Mienz… they use ALL the examples in the world, including why its good that the society is not encouraging humour because there will be race and religion issue going around.
Mienz, i dare say, religious issue may still be there, but the race thing, its so last year. We’re ‘attacking’ our own race. Well, at least I do. I’ll just ’shoot’ at anything I find funny, no matter what issue it is.
In America (or am I suppose to call it the States to make my short passage look a lil’ cooler), the black call their mates ‘nigga’. Which is suppose to be offensive, but they made it sound so cool. (one point off).
A chinese, like Kenny himself, the famous blogger that got plenty of hits in http://kennysia.com/ he commented on Ah Beng. Short, but he did. Ahhh, the ah Beng jokes, the many many ah Beng ah Seng ah Lian and ah Hua jokes.
Short Info: For those who don’t know what’s with Ah Beng. Well, the description is a lil’ subjective, but i’ll give it a short shot here. Uhm, dragon tattoo, cheap clothing with jeans and slipper, ugly bleached hair, gangster-wannabe … etc etc
Again, there’s the Manglish and Singlish joke. (ahh, my personal favourite, because i’m now swimming amongst the minority group I call – The Sminglish.)
See, we can laugh at ourselves now. So, does the society REALLY discourages humour? How about the eleborated famous Phua Chu Kang. (Ironically, we’re SAD he had to finish his last season) We didn’t see the *ahem* society banning the show right? Well, as for the zoolander banning issue, I guess some kia-su’s are just afraid a small movie may influence and cause a stir within the nation. I bet at least 50% Malaysian watched Zoolander ‘piratedly’. *grins* And did anything happened? There you go. Society is fair la, its just some ‘powerful’ people who’s making all the wrong decision based on their own believes. Gosh, did I just got emotional?
I don’t know about Singapore. But humour is not discouraged in Malaysia. You think so?
Hello World
Hello World.
Heh~, fine joke for the programmers and IT educated people.
Try ask them what they first learn in any programming language classes, everyone would say “heh, we learn how to output “Hello World”.”
Well, I just thought of writting about this joke, mainly because its the first piece of work here in wordpress blog. (I’ve got a blogspot blog centuries ago, and a friendster blog alongside with this one, so i can’t call this my FIRST blog)
I remember, when i first came into this company (my first day job, still first), I’d stressfully tell my friends “Man… this new language, is difficult *sob*, I can’t even produce a ‘Hello World’”, and those IT literate people would LAUGH their heads off. Well, some would just laugh because they’re trying to cheer me, but obviously, they understands it.
Then 2 years back, when I was attending a programming class back in college, instead of Hello World, I wrote “Hello Kitty”… uhhh, which is lame, but it made some one smile.
Ahhh… so, this is how I give this blog a good start. With a joke, just like most famous speaker always does.
… hmmm
